Understanding Previous Version support for Autodesk Point products

Issue

You are a Subscription customer who has received an Autodesk license file containing a PACKAGE increment for your network Autodesk Point (non-Suite) product and you would like to understand more about Previous Version support and how it affects license consumption in your pool of available licenses.

Solution

Previous Version support is an exclusive benefit to Subscription customers that allows you to run the current version of an Autodesk product plus the three previous versions of that same product. For network products, Previous Version support is provided via PACKAGE increments in the Autodesk license files. Here is an example of a PACKAGE increment for AutoCAD 2012, which includes the feature codes for AutoCAD 2012 through AutoCAD 2009:

License Consumption:

Although Previous Version support allows Subscription customers to run the current plus three previous versions of the same network product, it does not grant additional licenses. Each unique product version still consumes a single license when launched.

For example, if you have a package license for two seats of AutoCAD 2012, the following scenarios can be expected:

  • You can install and run AutoCAD 2012, 2011, 2010, and 2009.
  • Two computers, each running AutoCAD 2012, will consume two licenses. No licenses will be available for other users.
  • One computer, running AutoCAD 2012 and AutoCAD 2011 simultaneously, will consume two licenses. No licenses will be available for other users.
  • One computer, running three instances of AutoCAD 2009 will consume only one license. One license will still be available for other users.
