I often have problems with Microsoft Outlook 2007 becoming unresponsive when performing a search through the instant search pane.
I can leave it running for 10 minutes and it is still hanged so I need to force it to close and restart it.
My system is Windows Vista and I have tried to disable all add-ons to no avail. I use the latest Windows Search 4.0.
Any ideas how to solve this or track down what the source of the problem is?
I would first assume some part of the index is corrupt. It takes me 2 days to rebuild my index but I had to do it a few months ago - right click windows search task tray icon > Windows search options > Advanced > Rebuild. (I assume there is a similar setting on vista) It also wouldnt hurt to force a chkdsk/f upon reboot.

I wonder if there is a way to validate the index or find out if that really is the problem or not.
ReplyDeleteIt might help to rebuild the index but it takes forever so I have to run it overnight.
A tip for rebuilding the index. I usually select to only index the main PST files first and when they are ready I select to index the older ones.
See it if helps.
