Palette Auto-hide Speed tips

With our Palette Auto-hide Speed freeware you can adjust how the palette roll-up/roll-out (show/hide or minimize/expand) for most palettes in AutoCAD and its verticals.

Here the tips: Set Roll-up to 0 (or higher if he want the palette to stay open longer after moving away from it) and Roll-out to a high value like 5000. Using this trick you either will need to click on the title bar of the palette to show it or wait 5 seconds hovering over it before it rolls out.

Palette Auto-hide Speed

Here’s an animation showing how it works and notice that just moving the mouse over the bar does not open the palette. It is first when clicking on the bar that the palette is opened.

How to convert block to xref in AutoCAD

Here are a couple of solutions if you run into a situation where you want to convert a block to xref.

One is to use the Express Tool command BLOCKTOXREF. See “Convert block to xref” on the Express Tools Ribbon tab.

It replaces all instances of a specified block with an xref. The command searches the entire drawing for references to a specified block name and replaces them with an xref that you specify. You can use this tool to unbind an xref, replacing the block with the original referenced drawing. Afterwards, you can use the PURGE command to remove the unreferenced block definition from the drawing. If the xref is not already existing use for example WBLOCK of the block in question and so the file is created before running the command. It can be run on the command line as well using -BLOCKTOXREF.

There is also BlockToXref.lsp that is a free app from JTB World that let you select one or many blocks in a drawing and change them to xrefs.

JTB Change Title now for AutoCAD 2018

JTB Change Title freeware has been updated to work with AutoCAD 2018.

Sometimes there can be a reason why you want to change the application title in AutoCAD based products. It can be that you need to take nice screenshots for documentation for example. Instead of showing "Autodesk AutoCAD 2018 - UNREGISTERED VERSION" or "Autodesk AutoCAD 2018 - NOT FOR RESALE" you want it to show "Autodesk AutoCAD 2018" or something else. With JTB Change Title this can be done.

DWG Columns 3.3 with DWG 2018 support

DWG Columns has been updated for AutoCAD 2018 and the new DWG 2018 drawing file format.

One good news with AutoCAD 2018 is that “The file navigation dialog boxes for operations such as Open, Save, Attach and many others now remember the sort order of the column. If, for example, you sort by file size or reverse sort by file name, the next time you access that dialog box it will automatically display files using that same sort order.”

How it works in Windows Explorer / File Explorer. Show DWG properties like version, what software the dwg was created by and more.

If you only want to see the DWG version there is a freeware version of DWG Columns available as well.

DwgInfoTip 1.6 with DWG 2018 support

JTB World’s DwgInfoTip 1.6 comes with support for the DWG 2018 drawing file format introduced with AutoCAD 2018. Here are the drawing metadata or properties that can be seen.

DwgInfoTip with DWG 2018 support

A freeware version is available that only shows the DWG version.

Autodesk Prerequisite Checker 1.0

Here’s a free system requirements analysis tool by Autodesk that can help to determine if your computer can run a particular Autodesk software product like AutoCAD or Revit.

“The Autodesk Prerequisite Checker analyzes the hardware and software environment of your computer and provides an output to let you know if you will be able to install and run a particular Autodesk product, or if you might run into difficulty.”

Read more about this tool and download it here.

It seems to have some issues though. Here’s what I found running a test on one machine. Obviously a horizontal resolution of 0 is incorrect.

It’s not yet been updated for Autodesk 2018 products.
